Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction orSI” is a great way to make sure you succeed in some of the UCA Core’s most challenging courses. SI helps you improve study skills and reach your learning goals in these courses through the support of peer SI Leaders who attend your class and hold guided study sessions.

An academic assistance program that utilizes peer-assisted study sessions. SI sessions are regularly-scheduled, informal review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and predict test items. Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together. The sessions are facilitated by “SI leaders”, students who have previously done well in the course and who attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students. SI is not tutoring, but rather assists students in being more successful in traditionally challenging courses.  Every student can benefit from participating in SI–in fact, many students raise their scores by an entire letter grade or more through SI!

SI goals include helping students to:
  • tackle tough course concepts in a supportive environment
  • incorporate a deeper understanding of course content with study skills that can be used with other coursework
  • learn how to successfully engage in a collegiate environment
If you are interested in enrolling in an SI section of these courses, please see the list of SI courses below or consult your academic
advisor.
