Special Problems in Physics – Solar Explorations
Funded by the National Space Grant Foundation Grant
Graduate Course: PHYS 5303, September 11th, 18th, 25th and October 2nd, 2010
This course is designed to be a content rich course for science teachers.The areas covered will include Formation History of the Solar System, the Sun our “lab rat star”, Planetary Geology, Planetary Satellites & Comets. The feasibility of a Solar System exploration and habitation program will be discussed.
Students will be encouraged to develop classroom activities and lesson plans during the course and share these with class mates. The timeline will be 4 days at the Summer Institute and 1-2 days follow up in the academic year with classroom visits, video taping lessons and trouble-shooting. The planned activities are aligned with SLE’s. 3hours graduate/undergraduate credit.
