Due to popular demand, the workshop An Arkansas Studies Bouquet: Mix of Free Resources and History Topics, will be offered again on August 2nd. The workshop offered on July 31 is full and will no longer accept registrations.

An Arkansas Studies Bouquet: Mix of Free Resources and History Topics is a free workshop for educators focusing on Arkansas studies. New History Workshop Offers Helpful Resources For Teachers

Outreach is pleased to offer a new workshop for educators, An Arkansas Studies Bouquet: Mix of Free Resources and History Topics. This free workshop, scheduled for July 31st, provides educators a variety of resources to help facilitate the teaching of Arkansas studies frameworks; including lesson plans, presentations and training on the comprehensive website, Arkansas History Hub. Discover something new at the 2011 History Symposium: Popular Culture in History. Keynote speaker and television talent, Dr. Randy Roberts, will enlighten educators with his presentation entitled, “Popular Culture Goes to War: America in the 1940s”.

Additional speakers will shed light on the dark side of the 1950s; examine the popular culture in Victorian Britain; expose the true identity of Superman as a metaphor for Twentieth-Century America and discuss graffiti in the Ancient World. Six (6) professional development credits are available.  The event is sponsored by The Point 94.1 FM and UCA History Department.  The Symposium will be held from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm at the Brewer Hegeman Conference Center at UCA. All participants will receive complimentary tickets to the UCA football game (Oct. 15) following the Symposium!

FREE PD opportunity for teachers on Oct. 26th! Register for “The Crisis Mr. Faubus Made” seminar.

Teachers, administrators and anyone else interested in the Little Rock Central High Crisis should register for the FREE upcoming seminar “The Crisis Mr. Faubus Made: The Role of the Arkansas Gazette in the Central High Crisis.”

Featured films include “The Old Gray Lady: Arkansas’s First Newspaper” and “The Crisis Mr. Faubus Made: The Role of the Arkansas Gazette in the Central High Crisis,” produced by UCA.  Participants will receive a packet with both films and a teacher’s guide and hear research presented by Dr. Sondra Gordy, Angela Webster and Dr. Nancy Gallavan.  The seminar will start at 9:00 am and will be hosted at the Brewer Hegeman Conference Center at UCA.  Click for more information or to register.  Registration on site will also be available from 8:00 am – 9:00 am.

Teachers register for the 2011 Arkansas Curriculum Conference!

This year’s Arkansas Curriculum Conference (ACC) will feature over 200 ADE-approved professional development sessions, selected short courses and workshops!  Subject areas include Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.  This year’s conference will be November 3-4, 2011 at the Little Rock Statehouse Convention Center.  For more information OR to register, visit the ACC web page.
