Participants will benefit from presentation of Art historical and Language Arts connections and a combination of 2-D and 3-D art-making techniques using common materials. Content presented will be aligned with the Arkansas Visual Arts Frameworks.

Observation skills, which are basic to artistic and scientific investigation, along with literary metaphoric and symbolic perspectives will be incorporated. Some of the topics covered are organic and geometric 3-dimensional forms, metaphorical and symbolic expression and drawing from observation/perspective.
This institute is suitable for K-12 art teachers, K-12 gifted and talented teachers and most K-12 Social Studies and Language Arts teachers. 2012 History Symposium: Presidential Elections in History
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Allan J. Lichtman
Dr. Lichtman is Distinguished Professor of History and formerly chair of the Department of History at American University in Washington, D.C. He is the author of seven books. He has provided commentary for all major U.S. television and radio networks and many foreign broadcast companies including BBC. He has published op-ed articles in major newspapers such as the New York Times and Washington Post.
His latest book The Keys to the White House explains 13 historical patterns in presidential elections that Dr. Lichtman has used to correctly predict the popular vote outcome in every presidential election from 1984 to 2008. His keynote address will explain the model and apply it to the 2012 election. For his lunch address Dr. Lichtman will speak about the 1928 election when the chief issues were liquor, religion, and geography. The 1928 election pitted Herbert Hoover of Iowa against the governor of New York, Al Smith, whose running mate was Senator Joe T. Robinson of Arkansas. Dr. Lichtman has written a book about the 1928 election entitled Prejudice and the Old Politics.

A time to reflect, collaborate, and get new ideas for curriculum planning and classroom management with other beginning teachers. Day One will focus on curriculum development. Day Two will focus on the classroom environment.
