Winners Named for UCA Film Festival

The University of Central Arkansas Digital Filmmaking Program recently announced winners from the sixth UCA Film Festival.

Films were screened on April 30 at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on campus.

Ouachita Rising won multiple awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Narrative, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor (Christopher Nunez of Hot Springs). It also won the “Faculty Choice” award. Ouachita Rising was directed by Brent Williamson of Little Rock and produced by Dias Fukada of Tokyo. Phillip Young of Texarkana served as director of photography.Sleepwalker was the second big winner, with awards for Best Editing, Best Producing, Best Visual Effects and best actress (Amber Edens). It was directed by Jordan Faulknor of Texarkana, Texas, and produced by Scott Fagaly of Maumelle. Yukiko Sato of Yamagata, Japan, was director of photography, and Chloe Smith of San Diego served as editor and production designer.

Other festival awards went to:

• Christy Ward, Little Rock, Best Sound Design, for Infinite Parade;
• Chris Kelly, Mountain Home, Best Production Design, The Color of Blood;
• “Death is a Bird” by Shawn O’Connor of Bentonville, Terence Rose of Jonesboro and Brandon Bristol of Greenbrier, for Best Music Video;
• “I Am the Homeless” by Austin Franke of Little Rock, for Best Documentary;
• “The Drip” by Eric White of Middleton, Tenn., for Best 90-Second Short.

Three departmental awards were also given. Corey Womack of Cave City earned the Outstanding Digital Filmmaking Award; Lesley Allen of Conway won the Leadership Award; and Collin Buchanan of Fayetteville took the MVP Award.
