CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble is set to perform Thursday, March 16, in Reynolds Performance Hall.

Conducted by Director of Bands Dr. Ricky Brooks, the concert will be the first performance this semester of the Department of Music’s concert series at Reynolds.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public and will feature a reception afterward.

“This concert will be a ‘first’ for the Wind Ensemble and Music Department,” Brooks said. “The UCA Wind Ensemble will perform a joint, collaborative concert with the Hendrix University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Gretchen Renshaw. Hendrix will perform the first half of the concert, and UCA, the second. Both ensembles will join together to perform ‘The Pines of Rome,’ conducted by UCA graduate conducting intern Nathan Rakow.”

The concert will also feature music major Rachel Lewis, clarinetist from Springdale and winner of the Student Spotlight Concerto Competition, performing “Carnival of Venice,” arranged by Jean Jean.

The concert will also include “La Pequena Habana,” a Latin composition by Todd Malicoate, and will end with “Gazebo Dances” by John Corigliano, a four-time Grammy winner who has also won the Music Pulitzer Prize and an Oscar.
