UCA HOSTS AAUW INTEREST MEETING

The University of Central Arkansas will host an interest meeting for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Conway Branch on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 5:30-7 p.m. at UCA Downtown, 1105 West Oak Street.

The Conway Branch of AAUW, founded in the 1920’s, is “looking to revitalize its membership to continue its legacy of empowering women in the Conway and Faulkner County areas,” said Maria Jones, AAUW state president.

At this event, organizers will answer questions about AAUW, recruit new members and provide leadership opportunities. Refreshments will be served and materials about the organization will be provided.

Shelley Mehl, associate vice president for UCA’s Division of Outreach and Community Engagement said, “There’s a lot of momentum in our community surrounding women empowerment and AAUW is just another vehicle to advocate and educate women on issues of the day.”

AAUW is a national organization that empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.  This meeting is for women with college degrees who work to assist women in finding greater opportunities to use their education, as well as promoting and assisting other women’s college attendance through scholarships.
