UCA faculty earn grant funding

The following faculty and staff have recently received grant funding:
Stephen Dinkelacker, Department of Biology, recently received a $500 grant for a study of the consequences of human construction on aquatic turtle populations. The grant is being funded by the Nebraska Herpetological Society.

Dinkelacker also received a $700 grant to study sex-based differences in habitat selection in a particular turtle species. The grant is being funded by Sigma XI, the Scientific Research Society.

Han-Chieh Wei and Quiang Duan, Department of Computer Science, recently received a $65,000 grant to study generic mechanisms for parallel subset data reading in Acxiom work flow grid. The grant is being funded by Acxiom Corporation.

Rahul Mehta, Department of Physics and Astronomy, recently received a $4,000 grant to study gene expression and signal transduction in human endothelial cells under a simulated microgravity environment. The grant is being funded by NASA through the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium and UALR.

Terry James, Department of Leadership Studies, recently received a $12,000 grant for professional development support for the EAST Initiative in America?s schools. The grant is being funded by EAST Inc.

Kelly Lyon and Clay Arnold, Department of History, received a $1,000 grant for the civics alive voter education curriculum. The grant is being funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Arkansas Humanities Council.

Donna Fisher Smiley, Department of Speech-Language Pathology, received a $19,876 grant for educational audiology services for the Conway Public Schools. The grant is being funded by Conway Public Schools.

Barbara Clancy, Department of Biology, recented a $109,220 grant to study the effects of adverse perinatal experiences on cortical organization. The grant is being funded by the National Institutes of Health through the NCRR, BRIN and UAMS.

Ginny Adams, Department of Biology, received a $939 grant for a Web site for North American Cave fishes. The grant is being funded by the North American Native Fishes Association through ASU.

Brent Hill, Department of Biology, received a $107,237 grant to study the interaction of aging and estradiol metabolites on coronary arterial function. The grant is being funded by the National Institutes of Health through the NCRR, BRIN and UAMS.

Kyle Felling, Department of Chemistry, received a $12,975 grant for the development of new optical materials based on dendrimer/polymer composites. The grant is being funded by the U.S. Department of Defense through the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
