CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir will be in concert Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
Admission is free.
“The choir has made great strides this semester in becoming a choral ensemble capable of performing great music to move and excite its audiences,” said John Erwin, director of choral activities and conductor of the UCA Concert Choir.
The choir will perform a variety of music, including selections by Eric Whitacre, Leonard Berstein, Hans Leo Hassler, Jan Sandstrom and Stephen Paulus among others, Erwin said. Included in the concert will be two new works: Long Road by Eriks Esenvalds and There Will Come Soft Rain by Ivo Antognini.
“A stunning new setting of the Scottish folksong ‘Loch Lohmand’ will be featured as well as a witty setting of ‘Proverbial Contradictions’ by Norman Luboff,” Erwin said.
The choir will tour northwest Arkansas Nov. 17-19, visiting Altus, Fayetteville, Springdale and Bentonville.
The UCA Concert Choir has developed a reputation for putting on masterful musical performances over the years. The choir usually consists of 60 students from all over campus.
The UCA Concert Choir is the most select large choir in the department of music. Members must audition demonstrating an excellent voice quality, a very good sense of pitch and an ability to read music at sight. Fifteen new members have been added to last year’s choir.
