The Theta Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the University of Central Arkansas was recognized as a Gold Chapter at the 2017 annual meeting in Anaheim, California.

Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals with over 300 chapters on college and university campuses.

Gold Chapter status is awarded to the top five percent of all Beta Alpha Psi chapters for their commitment to professional and service hours. Students had to compete in the Gold Challenge competition to achieve the status. UCA students created and submitted a video prior to the meeting that demonstrated why the UCA chapter deserved the award.

In addition to the Gold Challenge, six UCA students participated in competitions against Beta Alpha Psi students from around the globe.

UCA students Anastasiya Klimiankova of Belarus, Obed Onyemakonor of Nigeria and Nathan Scheuter of Conway competed and earned third place in the Strategic Planning category of Best Practices using their project, “Building on the Past and Preparing for the Future.”

Emelyn-Doriane Djoké of Côte d’Ivorie and Tuan Nguyen of Vietnam competed in the Community Outreach category of Best Practices using their project, “Diversity in the Accounting Profession.”

Kylie Garrett of Heber Springs competed in Project Run with It, a competition that requires students to develop solutions to real life, not-for-profit organization business problems. During the conference, students also attended sessions on professional development, ethical behavior, leadership skills, service and professional networking.

The UCA Department of Accounting received contributions from BKD, LLP that allowed the students to travel to the annual conference. The Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants also sponsored a networking social for all Arkansas Beta Alpha Psi chapters attending the conference.
