UCA announces record student enrollment

UCA has a Fall 2008 enrollment of 12,959, the largest in its history, and an increase of 2.7 percent over its enrollment one year earlier, which was 12,619.

UCA remains the second-largest university in Arkansas, and it also has the second-highest retention and graduation rates of any public university in the state.

“We are pleased that UCA continues to attract so many college-bound Arkansas students,” said UCA interim president Tom Courtway. “But we are particularly proud that the number of UCA graduates continues to grow every year, and our efforts are focused on improving our retention and graduation rates.”According to numbers that will be reported to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, new freshmen enrollment is 2,113, and the international student population reached 577, which is also a new record.

UCA’s total enrollment includes 11,033 undergraduates and 1,926 graduate students.

The racial composition of the student body has not changed significantly:

Asian – 1.76 percent
Black – 14.10 percent
Hispanic – 1.76 percent
American Indian – .72 percent
White – 72.98 percent
Non-Res. Alien – 4.48 percent
Unknown – 4.21 percent

Designated by gender, 59.88 percent of UCA students are female, and 40.11 percent are male.

UCA’s total student enrollment has grown by 28.7 percent since Fall 2004.
