CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Symphonic Band will begin the spring season with a concert at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The concert, free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Director Brantley Douglas said he looks forward to sharing the symphonic band’s rendition of contemporary wind literature with both the UCA community and members of the general public.

The band will play pieces by Vaclav Nelhydel, Henry Fillmore, Jordan Jacob and Girolamo Frescobaldi.

Douglas said he was excited about the upcoming performance because the symphonic band usually performs with either the UCA Wind Ensemble or University Band. This will his first UCA Symphonic Band solo performance to direct.

The performance precedes Douglas’ trip to the Arkansas Band Symphony Orchestra convention with other directors from the university.  He said he hoped to make an appearance at the convention under a different context in the future.

“Our [the symphonic band] goal is to one day be invited to play at the ABSO convention,” Douglas said.
