Twelve UCA accounting students traveled to Houston, Texas on March 4th and 5th to represent the Theta Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the 2016 regional meeting. Beta Alpha Psi is an organization for financial information students and professionals with 300 chapters on college and university campuses. The Theta Lambda chapter is identified as a superior chapter by the organization for its commitment to professional and service hours. Highlights from our trip include the following:

  1. First Place for Good or Great Best Practices Competition
UCA Students Melissa McDowell, Denise Nim, Parker Somerfield, and Alyson Tyler presented how our officers and members strive for greatness in chapter events and activities. The first place finish (against eight other universities) qualifies UCA to compete with other regional winners at the national meeting in Baltimore this August.

The keynote address was given by Dan Gilliam, Internal Audit Manager, Phillips 66.
  1. Friendships and Fun
The students had a great time meeting representatives from other universities. Friendships were formed during the meeting itself and during free time in Houston.

The UCA Accounting Department and Beta Alpha Psi chapter would like to give special thanks to BKD, LLP for generous contributions to our department that allows our students to travel to conferences each year. Without this support, our participation in these activities would be severely limited.
