Student Publications Win at 2010 ACMA

The University of Central Arkansas student publications won more than 50 awards during the annual Arkansas College Media Association contest earlier this spring.

Students on all three publications – The Echo, The Scroll and The Vortex, – won first place in several individual categories. The Vortex won first place in General Excellence for literary magazines, The Echo won second in General Excellence for campus newspapers and The Scroll Editor won Editor of the Year.

Twelve institutions participated in the 2010 competition, which included 12 campus newspapers and seven yearbooks.“Although we didn’t do quite as well as we did in 2009 when we swept the three General Excellence categories, I am still pleased with the results,” said Dr. Polly Walter, faculty publication adviser and director of the UCA Student Publications Board. “Advisers at other institutions told me that this year they revised many of their strategies used in the student publications so they might win some of the top spots. I guess it worked. To me, this increased level of competition is a great incentive for the student media in all the statewide institutions.”
