WHO: Harvey Lacey, inventor of the Ubuntu-Blox

WHAT: Public Lecture and Demonstration

WHEN: 1:40 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., September 26

WHERE: College of Business Auditorium

DETAILS: Harvey Lacey, the inventor of the Ubuntu-Blox, will visit the University of Central Arkansas on September 26 and 27. Lacey will speak to students in the College of Business about the Ubuntu-Blox. The Ubuntu-Blox is a brick made from recycled plastic bags and Styrofoam. Lacey will demonstrate home construction using the Ubuntu-Blox before and after the lecture.

Lacey will discuss how he has taught women in Haiti to build sustainable houses with recycled local materials. The women build houses for themselves and sell the Ubuntu-Blox to others. Before and after the talk he will demonstrate how Ubuntu-Blox are made and how it becomes safe, comfortable housing for the poor. Lacey has used the construction material to build homes in Haiti and other areas around the world.
