RENT to Play Two Shows at UCA

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize, RENT, the Broadway musical written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif, is coming to UCA?s Reynolds Performance Hall for performances on Wednesday and Thursday, March 15 & 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for both shows. Call UCA Ticket Central at 866-810-0012 (toll-free in Arkansas), or in Conway, call (501) 450-3265. General Public and Senior Citizen tickets are available online at www.uca.edu/reynolds.

Now in its 10th season, RENT has made a lasting mark on Broadway as a musical that resonates with young people, whether in 1996 or in 2006. The show is about being young in New York, being brave and being scared, being in love and being in trouble. “

Inspired by Puccini?s opera La Boheme, RENT is a joyous, breathtaking, and often heartbreaking musical that celebrates a community of young artists as they struggle with the soaring hopes and tough realities of today?s world. Jonathan Larson, who wrote the music, lyrics, and book for RENT, died unexpectedly of an aortic aneurysm the night before the show?s first performance off-Broadway, 10 days before his 36th birthday.

Tickets are $35, $32, and $30 for the general public; $32, $29, and $27 for senior citizens; $30, $27, and $25 for UCA faculty and staff; $28, $25, and $23 for UCA students (I.D. required); and $30, $27, and $25 for non-UCA students. Box Office hours are 10 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

On the afternoon before each show, people can sign up for a chance to purchase center orchestra seats in the first two rows for that evening?s performance. Sign up begins at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Performance Hall, with a drawing for the $20 seats beginning at 4 p.m. Sales are cash only, and you have to be present for the drawing. Only 36 $20 tickets will be sold in the drawing for each show.

The tradition of the $20 tickets was started in New York when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theatre. Since that time people have lined up as early as the night before to guarantee their purchase of the $20 tickets. The producers of the show are committed to continuing the tradition of offering orchestra seats for $20 in each city the show will play.

Because the RENT story addresses adult themes and controversial issues and sexual situations, Parental Guidance is suggested. It is not recommended for children under 13.
