CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Percussion Ensemble will perform its third concert of the spring semester on Thursday, April 12, at the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of pieces for varying groups of percussion instruments such as marimbas, vibraphones, drums, log drums, cowbells, timpani, cymbals, chimes, and many others. Works featured will include “Whispers” by David Skidmore, “Sacrificial Rite” by David Gillingham, “Factions” by Lynn Glassock, and “Marimba Quartet” by Daniel Levitan.

Dr. Blake Tyson, director of the UCA Percussion Ensemble, said he felt the ensemble was significant for the student musician’s experience.

“The UCA Percussion Ensemble is made up of graduate and undergraduate percussion majors,” he said. “It is an important experience for the students because it gives them an opportunity to develop both technically and musically while honing their ensemble playing skills.”

Tyson said he was excited about his role in organizing the concert and hoped to satisfy the audience with the performance.

“Being a part of an ensemble like this helps them learn how to organize, lead and conduct performing ensembles of their own in the future,” he said. “Of course, we also want to put on a great concert that the audience will find both enjoyable and inspiring.”
