McLauchlin Scholarship recipients honored

The Graduate School of the University of Central Arkansas recognized Angela Quattlebaum and Jamie Martin as the 2004-05 recipients of the Robert M. McLauchlin Graduate Scholarship on Thursday, Sept. 16.

Angela Beth Quattlebaum is from Helena, Arkansas. This is the second year she has been awarded the McLauchlin Graduate Scholarship, and her second year as a graduate student pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy.

She is the daughter of Terry and Monica Quattlebaum of Helena. In high school, she was a Girls State Delegate and listed in Who?s Who Among High School Students. She won awards in chemistry and Spanish II. In her college career she was on listed on Presidential?s Scholars, Dean?s, and Chancellor?s lists. Quattlebaum was also active in Sigma Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the Pre Physical Therapy Club.

Since becoming a graduate student she maintained a 4.0 grade point average.

Quattlebaum believes that her greatest accomplishment will be to take the knowledge she has learned from her instructors and hands on experiences, and to apply them as a physical therapist to help others to improve their quality of life.

Jamie Suelen Martin is from Jonesboro. She is the daughter of Judy Pollard of Paragould, Arkansas.

Martin is a first year graduate student in the Community Service Counseling program. She received her undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University where she majored in psychology and minored in family studies.

While attending Arkansas State she was listed on the President?s and Dean?s List. She was in the Chi Omega Sorority and the Psychology Honor Society, Psi Chi. Martin has served as a volunteer in several organizations including the City Team Youth Ministries, Make A Wish Foundation, and the Children?s Miracle Rodeo.

Her goal is to earn her licensure to counsel and to work with children.

The Robert M. McLauchlin Graduate Scholarship was endowed in December of 1995 after the death of Dr. Robert M. McLauchlin, then dean of the UCA Graduate School.

The scholarship provides funds to graduate students who have been admitted into the Graduate School with full qualifications and who are enrolled for nine or more credit hours per semester.

The scholarship is renewable for the second semester as long as the student maintains a grade point average of 3.0 and continues full time study.

Selection of the award winner/s is competitive and based on academic performance, school and community involvement, and financial need. The selection is made by a committee of UCA graduate faculty and administrators.

Applications must be submitted early in the spring semester each year. Selections are made mid spring for the fall semester.
