Faculty Receives 'Early Career' Award

University of Central Arkansas psychology professor, Femina Varghese, has been named the recipient of the 2013 Division 18 Early Career Achievement Award. Campus mourns the loss of past trustee

The University of Central Arkansas mourns the loss of past board member Dallda F. Womack, who died Friday at a Little Rock hospital. Services for Womack were Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the D.F. Womack Gymnasium at Star City High School at 11 a.m. The online obituary can be found at www.griffinfuneralservice.net. Womack was appointed to the board in July 1990 and served until February 2004. Fall 2013 Schedler Honors Scholars selected

The Schedler Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas has selected 75 incoming first-year students as its newest class of Schedler Honors Scholars. The students were selected from a pool of over 200 applicants, of which 120 were selected for intensive full-day interviews on the UCA campus. Presidential Scholars and Dean's List Announced

The University of Central Arkansas has announced the Dean's List and the Presidential Scholars List for the spring 2013 semester. Recognition on the Dean's List requires at least a 3.5 grade point average with a minimum course load of 12 credit hours. Students must achieve a 4.0 grade point average with a minimum course load of 12 credit hours to receive the recognition of Presidential Scholar. UCA music students to attend Drum Corps International

Heather E. Hinesley from Conway and Jared M. Cronk from Cabot, both Sophomore Music Education majors from UCA, have been chosen to participate in Drum Corps International (DCI) for the summer of 2013. Musicians chosen for the annual tour spend several weeks in May living and rehearsing in Indianapolis, Indiana before beginning a summer tour schedule with their individual corps assignments. UCA’s five student publications took home a total of 57 awards at the Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA)’s 2013 Media Contest held at Ouachita Baptist University on Friday, April 26. Each year, the ACMA hosts a conference that includes media workshops for students and advisors followed by an awards banquet. Black bear carving complete

After four days, the buzz of the chainsaw is over, but the buzz around campus continues. A sculpture of a black bear outside Wingo Hall is now complete. Gary Keenan, a sculptor from Iowa, began shaping a tree into a life-sized black bear on Monday, May 6. He finished on Thursday, May 9. UCA students, faculty, staff, and alums, along with local media and community members visited the work site each day to watch Keenan's progression on the carving.
