The event, created to honor the memory of Olive Hilliard, who served as a professor at UCA from 2003 until her death in 2010, is sponsored by the UCA School of Communication. It showcases outstanding students from Principles of Communication classes.

Students are nominated by their Principles of Communication instructor and then audition for the semifinals. Three to five finalists will be chosen for the final round Oct. 6. Judges will include Terry Wright, dean of the UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication; Dr. Riva Brown, assistant professor of public relations; Adena White of the Conway Chamber of Commerce and Jeanette Anderton of the Log Cabin Democrat.

The winner and runner-up will receive a cash prize. All finalists will be recognized for their participation and work.

Teri Colaianni, Hilliard Speech Showcase committee chair, said the nominated students were selected because they exemplified Hilliard’s spirit and character, including compassion, friendliness and a great sense of humor.

The Olive M. Hilliard Fund was established to support the winners of this showcase. To contribute to this fund, contact the UCA Foundation, or the School of Communication office at 501-450-3344.
