CONWAY — The horn quartet Ghengis Barbie will be in concert Jan. 29 as part of its residency on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

The concert, free and open to the public, is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Made up solely of women, this ensemble is self-described as the leading post-feminist, all-female horn experience.

“Genghis Barbie is an amazing example of what people can do when they work together, think outside the box and believe in their dreams,” said Dr. Brent Shires, associate professor of Horn and faculty sponsor for the residency.

“These four women make up something much bigger than just a horn quartet. It’s art and entertainment, classical and pop, humorous and serious, just like the roller coaster of life. It’s a performance you will never forget.”

Other activities over the two-day residency include:

  • Seminar: Chamber Music, Entrepreneurship in Music, and Performance Techniques, Jan. 28, 7:30 p.m., Recital Hall
  • Individual horn lessons for UCA students, Jan. 29, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., SFA
  • Brass area masterclass, Jan. 29, 2 p.m., Recital Hall.

“They will be giving an intense residency, displaying their versatility of styles in performance and their expertise in entrepreneurship, chamber music and horn playing and teaching,” Shires said.

The ensemble will play a variety of music including pop, jazz, rock and classical. Ghengis Barbie has performed at Carnegie Hall and appeared on “America’s Got Talent”.

All events are free of charge and open to the public. For more information about the ensemble, visit Ghengisbarbie.com. For more information about the residency, contact Shires at 501-450-5768, bshires@uca.edu.
