CONWAY — The Dallas Children’s Theater will take the stage at the University of Central Arkansas’s Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall to perform The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. as part of Conway’s 2014 ArtsFest.

The Adventures of Flat Stanley is a musical adaptation of the popular children’s book, “Flat Stanley,” written in 1964 by Jeff Brown. Since the first production in 2008, the musical has become a touring sensation throughout the United States and Canada.

The comedy musical follows the adventurous character Stanley Lambchop on a whirlwind trip around the globe. Stanley is tired of living a normal life and makes a wish to travel the world. His wish comes true when a bulletin board falls on him in the middle of the night and makes him flat enough to fit inside a letter and travel the world through the postal system. Stanley soon wishes to return home and be three-dimensional once again when he realizes that his adventures aren’t as enjoyable without his family.

“This is an excellent production by the Dallas Children’s Theater,” said Ashley Love, director of finance and marketing for UCA Public Appearances. “The characters are adorable, and they have done a great job updating the content for today’s children with small features like Stanley being a huge fan of Harry Potter. It will be a fun, affordable afternoon for families.”

Tickets for the show will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. The show is sponsored by Little Rock radio station B98.5 FM.

To accompany the show, the University of Central Arkansas will hold a Flat Stanley Art Contest for third grade students in Faulkner County. Seven Conway elementary schools, Mayflower Elementary, Bigelow Elementary, Eastside Elementary in Greenbrier and St. Joseph Elementary signed up more than 950 students to participate in the contest.

A winner will be chosen from each classroom and awarded two tickets to the show where their Flat Stanley art will be put on display.

Jeff Matthews and Lisa Fischer from the B98.5 morning radio show will judge the contest. The Ralph Behrens Performing Arts Fund is the sponsor.

“This activity introduces the students to the great moral of the book and brings to life the story through performing arts,” said Amanda Horton, director of UCA Public Appearances. “It allows us to partner together with local school districts to expose children to performing arts at a young age and help cultivate a lifetime interest in theater.”

Tickets are available at the UCA Ticket Central Box Office. Call (501) 450-3265 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or toll free from anywhere in Arkansas at (866) 810-0012 or visit www.uca.edu/reynolds.
