CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas’s last jazz ensemble concert for the semester will take place on Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Many people forget that jazz is a uniquely American art form,” said Larry Jones, director of the Jazz I ensemble. “Jazz has been embraced not only in the US but all over the world.”

The program will start with the UCA Dixieland Band under the direction of Dr. Jackie Lamar. This ensemble will focus on traditional New Orleans Jazz from the teens and 1920s. Jazz Ensemble II, under the direction of Christian Carichner, will follow. Jazz II will explore the rise of the Big Band Era of the 1940s-60s.

Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Larry Jones, will take the stage next and will pay tribute to Buddy Rich, one of the greatest drummers and bandleaders.
