DSU wins golf classic, UCA second

The Delta State Statesmen followed up a first-round 284 with a second-round 289 to finish at 573 and win the fourth-annual UCA/First State Bank Intercollegiate at Centennial Valley on Tuesday.

The University of Central Arkansas shaved 11 strokes off Monday?s 295 total with a low round of the day of 284 and finished second at 579. Arkansas Tech shot 291-293_584 for third, while Northeastern State was fourth at 595.

Ouachita Baptist finished fifth (597), followed by Newman University (604), Henderson State (611), Drury University (617), UALR JV (619), Harding (628), Christian Brothers (637), Hendrix College (705) and Lyon College (708). UA-Monticello did not have enough golfers complete their second round for a team score.

UCA?s Kobus Erasmus put together back-to-back solid rounds to finish third overall. Erasmus shot 69-72_141. ATU?s Nick Quast was medalist with a blistering 65-68_133. Kevin Jones of DSU was second at 69-70_139.

UCA?s Matt Montgomery tied for sixth with a 75-70_145, while Mauricia Galeno shot 75-72_147 to tie for 11th. Freshman Ryan Lecuyer also tied for 11th at 76-71_147. Jordan Short shot 77-71_148 to tie for 16th.

Other finishers for UCA included Brandon Hargraves at 150, Kent Loftus at 151, Louis-Charles Godin at 156, Brannon Watson at 161 and Matt Feimster at 164.
