ARTSFEST PRESENTS CONWAY’S 6TH ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

CONWAY —The sixth annual Conway Film Festival Oct. 2 and 4 will feature the top 14 films from a pool of 1,600 entries.

As part of Conway’s ArtsFest, the first screening will be Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., with the second, a rescreening, set for Oct. 4 at 1 p.m., both at The Lantern Theatre, 1021 Van Ronkle St., in downtown Conway,

“We have some exciting films, including Arkansas shorts,” said Matthew Foss, co-director of festival and president of the UCA Film Club. “We are hoping to have a brief Q and A with all filmmakers there.”

The festival list is an international one.

The lineup for music video includes El Muppett Song, directed by Charles White, an alumnus of the UCA digital filmmaking MFA program; As You Watch My Heart by Jacob Andersen and Connie by Abbey Sacks.  Those in the animation category are Orpheus the Penguin by Jennifer Anne Haugen, Bird Doggin’! by Bram Cayne and Escarface by Pierre Plouzeau. Documentaries include The Mural by Fran Guijarro, Engine Room by John Riddell and McFall by Peter Borrud. The shorts category includes Stuck by John Hockaday, a UCA film alumnus; Pint by Nick Barker; An Ode to Angeline by Sarah Jones, a UCA MFA graduate; Toned by Al Topich, a UCA MFA student; and Avarice by Scott McEntire of Little Rock.   

Multiple awards are up for grabs, including Best Narrative Short, 
Best Documentary Short, 
Best Music Video/Experimental Film, 
Best Actor, 
Best Actress, 
Best Director, 
Best Cinematography, 
Best Editing/Visual Effects, 
Best Screenplay and Best Production Design.

The festival is sponsored by Psi Delta Kappa, the cinematic co-ed honors fraternity of UCA.

The UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication includes the Departments of Art, Communication, Mass Communication and Theatre, Music and Writing.
