ART PROFESSOR SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE EXHIBITION

Holly Laws

Holly Laws, associate professor of Art, was recently selected as the Arkansas representative to the international exhibit Heavy Metals: Women to Watch 2018 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

The museum’s associate curator and curator for the competitive exhibition, Virginia Treanor, selected two of Laws’ mixed-media artworks: Placeholder and Three Eastern Bluebirds. The exhibit will be on view at the national museum June 28 – September 16, 2018.

Laws’ selected artworks were first featured in her 2017 solo exhibit in the Baum Gallery at UCA: Placeholder (cast bronze, found ironing board, plywood pedestal) and Three Eastern Blue Birds (steel, copper, mahogany, found ironing board, plywood pedestal).

The Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (ACNMWA) sponsors Laws’ participation. Guest curator Matthew Smith of Little Rock submitted Laws’ work for consideration.
