UCA hosts 2013 Amigo Cup Tournament;
Latino women’s regional soccer champions to compete

CONWAY, Arkansas—The University of Central Arkansas will host the fourth annual Amigo Cup Soccer Challenge on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex. The tournament will run from 9:00 a.m. to around 6:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public.amigo cup female

The Amigo Cup at UCA will be the first in Arkansas to bring together the regional Latino women’s champions from the four major Hispanic communities in Arkansas namely Rogers, Springdale, Fort Smith and Little Rock. In addition to the four women’s champion teams, the tournament will also host six men’s teams who will compete for the Amigo Cup trophy and bragging rights. trophy.

“The Amigo Cup tournament helps to meet our goal of increasing diversity at the University,” said Gary Roberts, dean of students and chair of the event. “Since this tournament began, the Latino enrollment at UCA has increased over 26 percent.”

Those who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited.

“This event demonstrates UCA’s commitment to and recognition of the Latino culture and their passion for soccer by where teams from throughout Arkansas can get to know each other, get to know the UCA campus, and get to know Conway, a model community known for its “quality of place” said Manny Sepulveda, Hispanic Initiative coordinator.

The event will also feature authentic Salvadorian and Mexican food. Live play-by-play broadcast of the championship game will be streamed online at www.CarlosChicas.com.
