Preliminary Competition Requirements
Divisions I and II:
Each entrant will perform two compositions of his or her choice.
Each entrant will be heard a maximum of five minutes.
The entry fee is $25.00
Divisions III, IV, and V:
Each entrant must perform at least two compositions from different style periods.
Each entrant in Division III will be heard a maximum of eight minutes.
Each entrant in Division IV will be heard a maximum of ten minutes.
Each entrant in Division V will be heard a maximum of fifteen minutes.
Entry fee is $35.00
ALL Divisions
Each entrant must perform from memory.
One copy of the music must be provided for the judges.
No photocopied scores may be used.
First place winners from last year’s competition may not compete in the same division in this year’s competition.
All entry forms, with fees, must be postmarked by April 18th, 2012.

Final Competition Round
Each student in any division will be judged on (1) musicianship, (2) technique, and (3) overall performance. A maximum of ten points on each aspect, or a total maximum score of thirty points can be given. The students with the highest scores in each division will play one piece (student’s choice) in the finals which will be held following the lunch break. The number of finalists chosen in each division will be left to the discretion of the judges. First, second, and third place winners in each division will be determined as a result of this final phase of the competition. The decision of the judges is final.

I. Elementary (grades K-3) 1st Place – $100* 2nd Place – $75 3rd Place $50
II. Middle (grades 4-6) 1st Place – $125 2nd Place – $100 3rd Place $75
III. Junior High (grades 7-9) 1st Place – $200 2nd Place – $150 3rd Place $100
IV. High School (grades 10-12) 1st Place – $600** 2nd Place – $300 3rd Place $100
V. College 1st Place – $600 2nd Place – $300 3rd Place – $100
*This award is given in memory of Mr. James Herrin
**The top Arkansas high school division winner may be eligible for a Stella Boyle Smith keyboard scholarship to attend the University of Central Arkansas
