[1] A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required for admission, retention and completion of the degree.

[2] A major in P-8 and 7-12 Kinesiology and Physical Education is required.  A major grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required for admission, retention and completion of the degree. The major consists of 58 credit hours.  A grade of C or better is required in all major courses.

[3] A minor in Health Education is required.  A minor grade point average of 2.5 or higher is required for admission, retention and completion of the degree. The minor consists of 23 credit hours.  A grade of C or better in all minor courses is required. While H ED 2201 is the only required pre-admission course, a student’s minor grade point average for admission will be calculated on all required minor courses completed. A student cannot be admitted into the program unless a grade of C or better is earned in minor required courses completed.

[4] Candidates must meet admission, retention, and exit requirements of the College of Education and the Physical Education -Teacher Education programs.  Candidates should be familiar with the specific degree requirements listed in the UCA Undergraduate Bulletin as well as the College of Education and Physical Education - Teacher Education (PETE) websites.

[5] Upon acceptance into teacher education, candidates must purchase a subscription to Chalk and Wire, an electronic portfolio program required by the College of Education.  Candidates may purchase a one-year subscription and then renew for a second year or purchase a two-year subscription.  Candidates should refer to the College of Education’s webpage for specifics related to these fees.

[6] Students are required to submit a hardcopy of each entire score report for each PRAXIS I test taken regardless of the score earned.  Students should submit a written copy of each score report to their academic advisor.  Students are advised to save each score report on their personal computer within the 30-day time frame  stipulated by ETS in order to avoid the expense of purchasing additional  score reports. Verification of passage of Reading (i.e. score of 172 or higher), Math (i.e. score of 171 or higher) and Writing (i.e. score of 174 or higher) as well as the sub scores within each of these test areas  is required for admission to the College of Education - Teacher Education and PETE program. PRAXIS I tests are offered through paper or computerized format.  The PRAXIS I tests should be completed prior to the completion of the 2nd semester of enrollment but no later than the first PRAXIS I test administration (September or January) of the semester in which the student is enrolled in KPED 2300.  Failure to pass the PRAXIS I tests will delay admission to the PETE program and completion of the degree.

[7] The PETE program requires candidates to pass the PRAXIS II Subject Assessment tests #0856 – Health and Physical Education: Content Knowledge (paper) or #5856 (computer)  and the Physical Education Content and Design exam  #0095 (paper) or #5095 (computer) prior to enrollment in KPED 4690 and KPED 4691 – Internship II. The minimum passing score is 144 for the #0856 and #5856 test; and 169 for the #0095 and #5095 test. PETE candidates must submit to the KPED 4380 instructor a hardcopy of each entire score report taken regardless of the score earned for these two designated PRAXIS II subject assessment tests.  These tests must be submitted before the conclusion of the semester in which candidates are enrolled in KPED 4380.  Students are advised to save each score report on their personal computer within the 30-day time frame  stipulated by ETS in order to avoid the expense of purchasing additional  score reports.   Should a candidate fail to meet the passing score by the end of the term of enrollment in KPED 4380, an X grade (deferred grade) will be awarded.  Failure to pass these tests will prohibit enrollment in KPED 4690 and KPED 4691 – Internship II (student teaching).

[8]  The PETE program requires candidates to submit to the Internship II instructor a hard copy of each entire score report for each Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) test taken regardless of the score earned. Candidates are required to pass the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) test to successfully complete KPED 4690 and KPED 4691 – Internship II.   Candidates may select one of the following three PLT tests (a) PLT-Early Childhood exam #0621 (paper) or #5621 (computer).  The minimum passing score is 157; (b) PLT Grades 5-9 test #0623 (paper) or #5623 (computer).  The minimum passing score is 160; (c) PLT Grades 7-12 test #0624 (paper) or #5624 (computer).  Students are advised to save each score report on their personal computer within the 30-day time frame  stipulated by ETS in order to avoid the expense of purchasing additional  score reports. The minimum passing score is 157.  Failure to pass the PLT test or successfully meet all degree requirements will result in a student earning an X grade (deferred grade) in KPED 4690 and KPED 4691 and delay awarding of the degree.
