Dean – College Of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) invites applications and nominations for Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM). The college includes the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy and is also home to the UCA STEM Institute. Baccalaureate degrees are offered in each discipline and in specialized areas such as environmental science, mathematics education, and science education. Master’s degrees are offered in biology, applied computing, applied mathematics, and mathematics education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in one of the CNSM disciplines; qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor in a CNSM department; possess a strong record of teaching and sustained professional achievement; demonstrate the ability to foster excellence and effective use of technology in teaching, research, and service; be able to effectively cultivate relationships with businesses, industry, schools, and community-based organizations; and possess the ability to secure external funds to support programs and activities of the college.
The position demands excellent communication skills and proven ability to facilitate consensus, evidence of effective academic leadership and administrative experience at the department chair level or above, and an understanding of the natural science and mathematics disciplines, individually and collectively.
UNIVERSITY: Founded in 1907, UCA has an enrollment of approximately 11,500 students. The university offers 81 undergraduate and 42 graduate certificate and degree programs, including doctoral programs in four disciplines. The student body consistently scores above the national average on the ACT exam. UCA is proud of its tradition of teaching excellence and its contributions in scholarly and creative activities. The campus is widely acclaimed for its beauty.
COMMUNITY: UCA is located in Conway, Arkansas, a thriving city of approximately 60,000, in central Arkansas, 30 miles northeast of Little Rock. Conway is home to several major industries, two private colleges, an excellent public school system, and strong private K–12 schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita and Ozark National forests and pristine wild areas near the Buffalo National River. Real estate is moderately priced, and taxes are relatively low.
