Visiting Assistant Professor in Printmaking

The Position: The Department of Art invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Printmaking for a nine-month appointment to begin August 2014. Responsibilities include teaching three studio courses in printmaking and foundation design or drawing per semester, as well as directing advanced undergraduate research and serving on committees. Candidates are expected to be active in the profession and in appropriate professional organizations.

The Department of Art in UCA’s College of Fine Arts and Communication offers the BFA in Studio Art with emphases in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture and the BA in Art with emphases in art history, art education, and fine art. The department has approximately 170 art majors and fourteen full-time and six part-time faculty; an active visiting artist program; and endowed scholarship funds of over one million dollars. The university is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have an MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Printmaking (MFA in Printmaking preferred); experiences teaching both traditional and alternative processes, as well as teaching foundation courses; a preference for working with non-toxic processes; an ability to guide students technically and conceptually; and a professionally active record of achievement. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

The University: Founded in 1907, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has an enrollment of approximately 11,500 students. UCA offers more than 75 undergraduate and more than 50 graduate certificate and degree programs, including doctoral programs in four disciplines. The Community: UCA is located in Conway, Arkansas, a thriving city of approximately 52,000, located in central Arkansas, 30 miles northwest of Little Rock. Conway is the home of a number of major industries, two private colleges, a public school system ranked among the state’s best, and strong K-12 parochial schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests and pristine wild areas near the Buffalo National River. Real estate is moderately priced and taxes are relatively low.
