The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Education in the Department of Music. The department enjoys endowments and private scholarship funds of approximately $1.5 million, annual university performance scholarships of $800,000, a visiting artist series, and full NASM accreditation. Many performances are presented in the new state-of-the-art, 1200-seat, Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The department serves 220 majors and minors, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees: BA, BM (Composition, Performance, Music Education), MM (Performance, Music Education, Conducting, Theory). The faculty is composed of 30 full-time and 8 adjunct members, most of whom have national and international reputations.
Responsibilities & Qualifications: The position’s responsibilities include teaching secondary choral methods, choral arranging, supervising secondary choral and elementary student teachers, and directing the University Chorus. Additional responsibilities may include other undergraduate or graduate music education courses as well as courses in elementary or general music education. MM in Music Education required, PhD or DMA in music education preferred, and significant experience in public school music education.
The University: Recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best master’s universities in the South, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students. UCA offers 81 undergraduate and 42 graduate certificate and degree programs, including doctoral programs in four disciplines. The Community: UCA is located in Conway, a thriving city of almost 60,000, situated in Central Arkansas, 30 miles northwest of Little Rock. Conway is also the home of a number of major industries, two liberal arts colleges, a public school system ranked among the state’s best, and strong K-12 private schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests and pristine wild areas near the Buffalo National River. Real estate is moderately priced and taxes are relatively low.
