RESIDENT MASTER FOR EDGE RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE IN STATE HALL-COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS-UCA INTERNAL SEARCH
EDGE Residential College is a living learning community connected to the liberal arts disciplines and the EDGE plan for students in the College of Liberal Arts. While other general education courses outside CLA are taught in EDGE Residential College, the special thematic focus is the EDGE theme of active global learning and service-learning/civic engagement. Students with an interest in liberal arts disciplines are encouraged to live in EDGE RC, but other students are welcome.
EDGE Residential College is seeking qualified faculty (MA, but Ph.D. preferred) to apply for the EDGE Resident Master position. This “faculty in residence” position is initially a one year/eleven-month appointment beginning August 1, 2013 with responsibilities split between teaching for a degree program (six hours a semester) in the college and serving as Resident Master. Salary is competitive. This position may be extended for another two years after the initial appointment, contingent on satisfactory performance and program needs. A Resident Master’s responsibilities include:
to live in EDGE Residential College and serve as an intellectual and personal role model.
to teach for the College of Liberal Arts in EDGE Residential College.
to help maintain and enhance the tone and theme of EDGE Residential College.
to nurture an active academic environment.
to promote EDGE College unity, interaction, and cooperation.
to promote student/faculty associate interaction inside/outside the classroom.
to develop EDGE College goals in cooperation with the Director of Learning Communities and the EDGE Rector.
to co-organize programs and activities with the Director of Learning Communities, the EDGE Rector and Housing/Residence Life.
to act as liaison to the EDGE College Hall Council.
to facilitate leadership development of the EDGE College undergraduate mentors
to assess and report on the effectiveness of the EDGE College.
to present programs at campus workshops and professional conferences.
to attend CLA EDGE committee meetings, as requested.
In addition to a year-round, utilities paid faculty apartment (refrigerator, stove, washer/dryer included) provided at no charge by the Office of Housing, the Resident Master will receive a number of cafeteria meals and designated parking spaces at the EDGE Residential College (parking decal not included). Pets are acceptable with payment of a pet deposit.
