PROJECT MANAGER COORDINATOR-INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES-DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Position: International Student and Scholar Services Project Manager
Reporting to the Associate Director of International Engagement, the International Student and Scholar Services Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of compliance and managing communications to and from the Department of Homeland Security. This position is responsible for ensuring all necessary filings are made in a timely and accurate manner. This position must have in-depth knowledge of immigration regulations and federal laws pertaining to F and J visa categories and is responsible for interpreting, explaining and applying current federal rules and regulations regarding immigration. This position uses independent judgment to prioritize tasks, problem solve, and multi-task in a demanding and customer-focused workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
o Provide guidance and counseling to international students on immigration regulations, academic issues, intercultural adjustment, work options, and personal matters
o Review, assess, and authorize work permission for international students seeking internships, academic training, economic hardship cases, and optional practical training
o Counsel on individual cases regarding academic difficulty, travel ability, visa status extension, visa renewal, and other issues pertaining to immigration status
o Interpret federal regulations and applying regulations to individual cases
o Evaluate student status for 500+ international students and coordinate the registration of all students in the federal SEVIS system (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) in timely fashion
o Manage and update student files (immigration records) – physical and virtual
o Develop and lead workshops on work authorization
o Act as a Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for F-1 students and Responsible Official (RO) for J-1 students and scholars.
o Maintain and update knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to international students and scholars (F and J categories)
o Interpret, explain, and apply federal immigration rules and regulations
o Ensure I-17s are accurate and kept up-to-date
o Completion of all required reporting associated with F certification and J designation; includes knowledge of all related expiration dates and deadlines
o Maintain communications with SEVIS offices
o Verify accuracy of federal documents (I-20’s and DS-2019’s) for use by international students and scholars
o Ability to run specialized reports as necessary
o Identify and develop training program objectives, and design appropriate workshops or materials to meet ISSS training and training material needs.
o Develop and disseminate training materials for all DSOs and AROs
o Identify, develop, and improve ISSS policies, procedures, programs, and services.
o Assist with the organization of student focused programs/activities and cultural activities/events
o Update ISSS section of website to be user-friendly for current and prospective students
o Communicate effectively with IE leadership regarding changes in policy or regulation, compliance issues, safety concerns, security, or other emergencies
o Other special projects/programs as assigned
o Bachelors Degree or equivalent
o 2+ years experience in field of regulatory compliance acting as DSO or PDSO
o Ability to work occasionally during evenings and weekends
o Ability to travel occasionally
o Ability to multi-task and work independently
o Must be US citizen or permanent resident
o Excellent organizational and inter-cultural communication skills

o Ability to supervise and manage multiple tasks
o Excellent customer service skills
o Strong computer skills required, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Applications
