UCA’s established and successful living/learning community, Hughes Residential College (HRC) is seeking qualified candidates (Master’s Degree required/Ph.D. preferred) to apply for the HRC Resident Master position. This live-in position is a one-year/eleven-month commitment (August 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014) with six credit hours of general education instruction (half-time) and half-time administrative duties each fall and spring semester. The position also includes administrative duties during the summer months. Extension of the position into a second year may be possible depending upon needs of the program.
A Resident Master’s responsibilities include:
to live in the College and serve as an intellectual and personal role model.
to teach general education in the College, as appropriate.
to help maintain and enhance the “living leadership” tone and theme of the College.
to strengthen the impact and further the reach of the Hughes Leadership Institute (HLI).
to nurture an active academic environment.
to encourage the use of instructional technology.
to promote College unity, interaction, and cooperation.
to promote student/faculty associate interaction inside/outside the classroom.
to develop College goals in cooperation with the Director of Learning Communities.
to establish a calendar for the academic year.
to co-organize programs and activities with the Director of Learning Communities and Housing/Residence Life, as appropriate.
to act as liaison to the College Hall Council.
to facilitate leadership development of the College undergraduate advocates.
to gather & assess data and report on the effectiveness of the College.
to present programs at campus workshops and professional conferences.
The HRC Resident Master’s appointment will reside jointly in the Learning Communities Program and in their approved academic department.
In addition to a faculty apartment (refrigerator, stove, washer/dryer included) provided at no charge by Office of Housing and Residence Life, the Resident Master will receive a number of cafeteria meals and a designated parking space at the College (parking decal not included). Standard utilities will be paid by the university. Pets are acceptable with payment of a pet deposit.
