Position: University of Central Arkansas is seeking a Controller.
The Controller is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the university’s financial reporting, debt financing and financial management. Primary responsibilities include supervising daily financial operations in the areas of accounting, accounts payable, travel, banking and cash flow.
The Controller ensures accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles; manages the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of financial activities; and directs financial audits. The selected candidate will operate as a member of the finance team within the division of Finance and Administration to develop the strategic vision and practical implementation of the University's financial policies and practices.
Qualifications: Job qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or with an emphasis in Accounting and seven years of progressively responsible financial management experience to include a public college/university and hands-on experience preparing and analyzing public higher education financial statements. Either a Master’s degree or CPA certification is preferred, but not required. Minimum three years direct supervisory experience required.
The selected candidate must have considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices based on the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), to include the recording, classifying and examination of financial transactions and the ability to analyze financial data, recognize errors and implement corrections.
Additionally, candidate must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills; have demonstrated abilities with computer programs including spreadsheets and accounting systems (Banner preferred); possess thorough understanding of month-end and year-end closing processes and reconciliations; have a good understanding of fund accounting; and have the ability to work independently. This position requires integrity and sound judgment, leadership and communication skills.
