VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF TROMBONE-DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC
The Position: The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Trombone in the Department of Music. The department enjoys endowments and private scholarship funds of approximately $1.5 million, annual university performance scholarships of over $700,000, a visiting artist series, and NASM accreditation. Many performances are presented in the state-of-the-art, l200-seat, Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The department serves 200 majors and minors and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees: BA, BM (Composition, Performance, Music Education), and MM (Performance, Music Education, Conducting, and Theory). The faculty is composed of 32 full-time and 6 adjunct members, most with national and international reputations.
Responsibilities and Qualifications: The position's primary responsibilities include recruiting and teaching an outstanding studio of applied trombone majors and performing with the Pinnacle Brass. Additional responsibilities may include jazz studies, music theory, musicology, or music technology. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional artistic skills on trombone including familiarity with both classical and jazz styles, and successful college teaching experience with evidence of strong recruiting skills. A MM is required, DMA preferred. A concurrent appointment as Principal Trombone in the Conway Symphony may be extended to the successful candidate.
The University: Recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best master's universities in the South, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students. UCA offers 81 undergraduate and 42 graduate certificate and degree programs, including doctoral programs in four disciplines. The Community: UCA is located in Conway, a thriving city of almost 60,000, situated in Central Arkansas, 30 miles northwest of Little Rock. Conway is also the home of a number of major industries, two liberal arts colleges, a public school system ranked among the state's best, and strong K-12 private schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests and pristine wild areas near the Buffalo National River. Real estate is moderately priced and taxes are relatively low.
