ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ART IN GRAPHIC DESIGN-DEPARTMENT OF ART

The Position: The Department of Art invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design for a tenure-track appointment to begin August 2013. Responsibilities include teaching three courses in graphic design, foundation design or other courses as assigned per semester as well as directing advanced undergraduate research. Other duties include advising, committee work, and service. Candidates are expected to be active in the profession and in appropriate professional organizations.

The Department of Art in UCA's College of Fine Arts and Communication offers the BFA in Studio Art with emphases in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture and the BA in Art with emphases in art history, art education, and fine art. The department has approximately 185 art majors and thirteen full-time and eight part-time faculty; an active visiting artist program; and endowed scholarship funds of over one million dollars. The university is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have an MFA in Graphic Design or Visual Communication; expertise in Macintosh computers and Adobe Creative Suite; a portfolio reflecting expertise in web, interactive, and time-based motion graphics; work that demonstrates knowledge of typography and design aesthetics; a professionally active record of achievement; and experience with cross-platforming and maintaining Macintosh labs. Desired qualifications include at least two years of teaching and professional field experience; knowledge of design theory and historical and contemporary trends in graphic design. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

The University: Recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best master's universities in the South, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students. UCA offers 81 undergraduate and 42 graduate certificate and degree programs, including doctoral programs in four disciplines. The student body consistently scores above the national average on the ACT exam. UCA is proud of its tradition of teaching excellence and its contributions in scholarly and creative activities. The campus is widely acclaimed for its beauty.

The Community: UCA is located in Conway, a progressive and growing city of almost 60,000, home of two private colleges, a public school system ranked among the state's best and a strong K-12 parochial school, and lies within 30 minutes of Little Rock and 40 miles of the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests. Residents have easy access to a variety of fine arts and performing arts venues including the Arkansas Arts Center and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Conway is also centrally located to many wildlife and parks areas such as the Buffalo National River. Real estate is moderately priced and taxes are relatively low.
