ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF LEARNING COMMUNITIES
JOB DESCRIPTION: The University of Central Arkansas’ established and successful learning communities require a creative, enthusiastic and intrinsically motivated person to serve as Assistant Director of Learning Communities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications for this full-time, 12 month non-classified position include: Ph.D. preferred (Master’s Degree required), ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies, exceptional writing and organizational skills, experience managing budgets and databases, and a proven record of successful supervisory experience. Experience with Banner & Adirondack is a plus. ADLC must have considerable knowledge and experience about learning communities as a movement of educational reform.
The Assistant Director of Learning Communities is responsible for the daily, practical administrative efforts to help students transition from high school to the first-year and subsequently to graduation. The Assistant Director will work closely with a number of constituencies including (but not limited to) Admissions, Academic Affairs, the Academic Advising Center, Student Affairs, Housing & Residence Life, Special Projects, Instructional Technology, Institutional Research, Learning Community faculty & students, and the Calendar Office. The Assistant Director assists and reports to the Director of Learning Communities in the Division of Enrollment Management. Specific duties include:
• Assisting in the implementation of the overall vision for learning communities at UCA
• Creating a seamless student transition through comprehensive recruitment and retention efforts for UCA’s Residential Colleges
• Assisting with the development of strategic marketing and recruitment efforts; serving as the point-person for recruitment opportunities (e.g. Bear Facts Day, Information Nights)
• Assisting with program budgets and fiscal planning
• Assisting with student data collection and analyses; conducting assessment studies on specific undergraduate student constituencies
• Developing student surveys and soliciting comprehensive feedback for program assessment
• Coordinating bulk recruitment correspondence and program acceptance letters
• Overseeing Residential College database management
• Maintaining web-based materials and facilitating the productive use of social media
• Networking on- and off-campus to bring visibility to learning community efforts
• Teaching for university programs (in general) and learning community programs (in particular)
• Coordinating advocate and learning assistant training
• Providing guidance to faculty while planning for the academic year
• Overseeing annual revisions to the Residential/Commuter Colleges training manual
• Serving as a liaison with Housing and Residence Life staff
• Coordinating faculty-in-residence meetings and inter-residential college activities
• Serving as co-chair (staff) of the Hughes Leadership Institute (HLI)
• Maintaining and distributing curricular and co-curricular calendars
• Indirectly supervising the learning communities Graduate Assistant
• Serving as proxy for Director of Learning Communities, as appropriate
• Accepting other duties as assigned
