Transfer Student Applicants

The application for Track II/Transfer Students is now open and the deadline is April 9th. Apply Now!

Applicants admitted to the Schedler Honors College generally have a cumulative college GPA of 3.5 or above and demonstrate strong writing skills, the ability to think cogently as expressed in writing and speaking, and commitment to public service. A half-day “Information and Interview” session will be held in late April. We select top applicants and invite them to meet with representatives of the Schedler Honors College to learn about our curriculum and our leadership and retention programs. Applicants will participate in a small-group, discussion-based seminar with a Schedler Honors College faculty member, exploring ideas in an essay by Peter Elbow and the applicant’s responses to those ideas in the writing sample described below. Invitations for admission to the Schedler Honors College will be extended after spring semester grades are reviewed.

Track II student scholarships are awarded on an as-needed, and as-available basis through private funding.  These scholarships are not full-ride packages.  All other benefits including TAG, URGE, and ELF awards, the honors living-learning community, and honors curriculum are available to these students.

Things you will need to provide in your application:

  • Background and Recommendation. The application asks for background information that should take no more than 15 minutes to provide, as well as the name and e-mail contact of a recommender. Be sure to select a teacher or counselor that is familiar with your academic record and who will be able to intelligently evaluate you on all of the following characteristics: intellectual ability, motivation, maturity, initiative, oral and written communication skills, artistic interests, leadership, analytic ability, originality, integrity, collaboration, respect, and service.  We will contact your recommender with information about how to complete a recommendation form on our website. Only one recommendation is allowed.
  • Two essays. You will be asked to provide two essays. In the first you will address an issue of public service in 200-400 words. It is very important that you conduct research about the Schedler Honors College at UCA before writing this essay. We want to see evidence that you have some understanding of our curriculum and our orientation to public service. In the second writing sample we ask you to read an essay by Peter Elbow and respond to it in 600-800 words based on a prompt we provide. For both essays, write them offline. Take your time. Research, write a draft, get reviews, revise it, and carry out that process more than once. When you have the best draft you can produce, paste it to the webform. These writing samples carry a great deal of weight in our admission process.
  • Official transcript. You should also request that your current institution send an official transcript directly to the Schedler Honors College by mail or by fax. Our mailing address is UCA Box 5024; 201 Donaghey Avenue; Conway, AR 72035. This transcript must include cumulative GPA and hours earned, where applicable. An additional official transcript will need to be sent at the conclusion of the spring semester.

The selection process for Track II students is similar to that of High School students with the exception that the student’s college GPA takes the place of scores for ACT, class rank, and high school GPA. Click here to learn more about our selection process.
