Benefits to Greek Life
- Greek Village addresses the future housing and meeting space needs of Greek organizations. As stated earlier, current Greek facilities are old, outdated, and too small for groups to grow.
- Greek Village will help to level the “playing field” for recruitment of new members. All groups who participate will have modern facilities with appropriate space, and at a cost that is equitable for each group.
- Greek Village should help Greek groups to grow in size, especially for groups who are struggling. Groups will be able to market their organizations as they display new, beautiful, modern facilities. In addition, Greek Life and housing staff – who will be housed in Greek Village - will be more accessible to provide guidance and leadership.
- Greek Village helps to increase and improve communications and relationships within and between Greek organizations.
- Greek Village helps off campus fraternities to get out of the “housing business.” Many management issues such as insurance, maintenance and repair, lawn care, student billings, trash pick-up, and student discipline will be managed by the university.
- Greek Village provides a reasonable approach for Panhellenic groups to pursue Greek housing, since there is little risk for these groups to become a part of Greek Village. NPC groups have a historical agreement in which no group is permitted to seek alternative housing unless all groups are in agreement.
Benefits to University
- Greek Village will be a recruitment tool for the university. The village will be located on a thorough- fare at a major intersection of the campus (Dave Ward Drive and Farris Road). Parents and students touring the campus will drive by and see beautiful Greek homes with students actively involved in campus life.
- Minority students will especially be attracted to the large Greek complex that will house African American and Latino groups.
- Greek Village provides another living-learning environment that will focus on leadership development. Greek village, along with the Honors College and Residential Colleges, add to the number of learning communities offered by the university.
- Greek Village will increase the UCA housing population by adding approximately 200 to 250 beds to the housing system.
- Greek Village will eliminate ongoing conflicts between residence hall students and Greek members who have chapter rooms in residence halls. Students living in residence halls will more public area space to meet their needs.
- Greek houses would come under university alcohol and other policies, which would be managed and enforced by university staff. We should experience fewer serious behavioral problems.
