Stephen Stanley is a producer, filmmaker, and educator with a broad background in development, production, finance and distribution. Most recently, Stephen produced the feature documentary Figures of Speech (to be released by Gravitas), Bedeviled (directed by Nicholl Fellowship winners the Vang Brothers and acquired by Voltage Pictures) and the thriller Loca (starring Danay Garcia, Danny Trejo, Emilio Rivera, and Lou Diamond Phillips).

Stephen started his career at The Gersh Agency, one of the industry’s most established talent agencies. Working within Gersh’s Film Finance and Distribution division, Stephen worked closely with top writers, directors, producers and actors and was on the team that packaged and sold a broad array of titles including David Schwimmer’s Trust, The Brass Teapot starring Juno Temple, Matt Walsh’s directorial debut High Road, and Josh Radnor’s Sundance hit Liberal Arts.   After leaving Gersh, Stephen spearheaded the launch of Ketchup Entertainment’s Film Distribution Division.  There, he oversaw the acquisition and release of Ketchup’s initial slate of over twenty-five films in both the US and the UK.  Ketchup forged a name for itself working on innovative release and marketing strategies across multiple platforms including theatrical and new media.  Highlights included the 2013 breakout documentary hit Linsanity, the Pierce Brosnan/Emma Thompson comedy The Love Punch, and Michael Polish’s adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s Big Sur.  Stephen was also a key point person for Ketchup as they negotiated output deals with Fox, Open Road, Alchemy and others.

In addition to his producing and industry work, Stephen is an award-winning filmmaker in his own right with two features and over a dozen shorts under his belt as a writer and director.  His films have played in festivals across North America.  Stephen received an MFA in Film and Television Production from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007.  He previously taught at UCLA Extension.
