Interior Desgin Adjunct Faculty
Kathie, known as K.C. to her peers, has been a member of the FACS faculty since 1991. Prior to working in higher education, K.C. was an interior designer for Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson architectural firm in Little Rock for eight years, Directions in Design in St. Louis for one year, and Pallardy & Evans Architects in Jefferson City, Missouri for one year.
Since 1982, she has also been the lead designer and owner of Design Alliance, Inc. in North Little Rock, Arkansas. As the interior designer, K.C. was part of the team that constructed Verizon Arena, Dillard Corporate Headquarters and several educational buildings at the Pulaski Technical College campuses. She was responsible for interiors in eight Embassy Suites Hotels and the interior renovation of various local hotel properties. K.C. also supervised the interior renovations for many local hospitals and medical clinics.
From 1991 until 2004, K.C. was an adjunct instructor whose classes included: Introduction to Interior Design, Commercial Interior Design, Advanced Interior Design, Senior Seminar in Interior Design and Internship in Interior Design.
K.C. earned her Associate Arts Degree and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Art from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She earned her Master’s Degree in May 2004 and in that fall, she became a full time interior design instructor. Classes that she has taught include Introduction to Interior Design, Commercial Interior Design, Senior Seminar in Interior Design and Advanced Interior Design. She also holds the position of Director of Internship.
She earned her National Council for Interior Design Qualification in 1983. She received Honorable mention for booth display at an annual Arkansas Hospitality Convention; a bronze medal in an annual “At Home” magazine interior design competition; and was Arkansas 2008 Designer of the Year; an ASID Presidential Citation and Outstanding Alumni recognition from the FACS Department.
While teaching, K.C. has been a grant co-writer and secured six grants from the Arkansas Council for Natural & Cultural Resources totally approximately two million dollars. She also was a co-writer that secured a UCA Foundation Grant. In addition, she was part of the team that applied for and obtained a Historical District designation for part of the UCA campus. She has been part of the design faculty that during three site evaluations achieved Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
She has been an active member in the American Society of Interior Designers since 1974 and held the position of President of the local association for two terms. She served as a board member representing the Arkansas Association within the Southwest Regional Chapter. She is also an Arkansas affiliate member of the American Institute of Architects. As a member of these organizations, she fulfills the ten continuing education units required biannually.
