Elizabeth Harper teaches world literature at UCA.  She completed her doctorate in medieval English literature and medieval studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009 and spent an additional year there as a postdoctoral fellow.  Dr. Harper researches money and economic exchange in medieval literature; her book manuscript explores the relationships between mercantile transactions and gift-giving in Middle English culture.   Her other research interests include Chaucer, Piers Plowman, romance, begging poems, drama, and late medieval culture and history.  She has published articles in Comparative Drama and The Chaucer Review, and is currently working on an article about epistemology and moral poetry in the writings of the fifteenth-century poet Thomas Hoccleve.
