Who may attend?
Super kids may attend! Super kids include all students entering first, second, and third grade who desire to learn and have fun. The Super Kids Program is designed to offer students an exciting curriculum not offered in most schools. The term "Super Kids" represents the belief that all students are super and thus should have an opportunity to attend.
Daily Schedule
Each course in the UCA Super Kids Program will be offered for one hour and 50 minutes per day for one week. Students take three courses. The same courses are offered for four sessions. All classes will be held at the University of Central Arkansas Child Study Center (115 Farris Road). The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. For more information call 450-3171 or 450-5442.
Classes Offered
Young Oceanographers and The Ocean
Super Kids will enjoy the sparkling water, exotic fish, colorful coral, sandy beach and warm sun. Get ready to explore the underwater kingdom. The Young oceanographers will investigate what makes the ocean salty, where the water comes from, and ocean creatures and their survival characteristics and habits. Pack your scuba gear and prepare for the dive into an ocean of new ideas and excitement.
Young Zoologists and The Animal Kingdom
Super Kids! The animal kingdom is going to come alive with many very exciting sights and sounds. Our Young Zoologists will have a wild time investigating the unique characteristics of five different animal groups. Our questions will guide our discoveries. Why do frogs have webbed feet? What does it mean to be cold-blooded? Grab your binoculars and watch carefully for the next wild animal sighting.
Young Ecologists and The Rainforest
Welcome to the sounds and sights of the jungle! Come explore the rainforests around the world where the temperature hardly changes from day to day, season to season, and year to year. Learn how rainforests affect our air, weather and lives. Grab your camera and gear to come join the adventure. The rainforest will come alive with exotic creatures that beg to meet new friends.
Friendship Builders
An important goal of UCA Super Kids 2013 will be the focus on student's relationships. Healthy friendships are important building blocks for future success. Therefore, a special 20 minutes per day will be devoted to these relationships. Speakers will be invited to give "motivational" talks to the Super Kids.
Program Fees
Children attending the UCA Super Kids Program for the five days must pay an enrollment fee of $155. This includes enrollment in the three extraordinary courses. Students are expected to bring their lunches. Applications will be processed on a first-come basis. Registration will be closed when space is filled.
Faculty
Each of the UCA Super Kids 2013 faculty members has experience working with students in this age group and a high degree of knowledge in his or her given subject areas. It is the goal of each faculty member to make this an enjoyable learning experience. UCA Super Kids 2013 is directed by Dr. Mark Cooper and Rene' Crow.
