The Gifted and Talented Graduate Certificate program, approved by the Arkansas Department of Education, is a fifteen graduate hour program designed to be completed within one calendar year including a summer, spring, and fall semester.
Upon successful completion of the program and the Praxis II, candidates will be recommended for Arkansas Gifted and Talented Licensure Endorsement. Teachers participating in this certification program will become more proficient in the teaching of higher order thinking skills to P-12 students. Additionally, the program focuses on the preparation of teachers to integrate Common Core State Standards into their classroom curriculum.
As partners with ArkansasIDEAS, you will earn ADE-approved professional development credit while completing course requirements for the UCA Gifted & Talented Graduate Certificate program. Topics covered include technology, parental involvement, Common Core State Standards, and gifted education. (Professional development credit is awarded solely at the discretion of the local school district.)
Students interested in pursuing a Masters in Special Education or a Masters of Advanced Studies in Teacher Leadership with the Gifted and Talented Licensure will complete the following coursework in addition to the GT track listed above.
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Our faculty and staff strive to prepare each professional to become visionary leaders in the field of education. To meet mission goals, we will prepare candidates with the necessary skills to face challenges of today’s classrooms and become reflective decision-makers with positive dispositions who under-stand the role of assessment, instructional planning, and how to facilitate social, emo-tional, behavioral, and academic achieve-ment for all students.
The ECSE Department strongly supports candidates toward reaching professional goals and earning a graduate degree or add-ing a licensure area through the graduate certificate program.
