The Latino/Hispanic Outreach Initiative is a program within the Office of Diversity and Community. It was created in Fall 2013 to develop programs and services that will increase university access and success for hispanic students and provide support for a greater percentage of Latino/Hispanic students to attend UCA and graduate.
This initiative exists to support the Latino/Hispanic community of UCA and has the potential of serving over 400 students. In addition, the intention of this program is to educate the general student population and faculty about the Latino/Hispanic culture and traditions through programs and events such as music concerts, food, dances, keynote speakers, comedy, and other activities.
Latino/Hispanic programs occur throughout the year. Some events target the larger Latino/Hispanic community while others concentrate on current students. Some traditional community events include the Maravillos de Mexico, Folklorico Dance Troupe, and the Amigo Cup Latino Soccer Challenge. Student-centered events include the “Ernie G” Latino Comedy Show, Día de Los Muertos Latino Cultural Exhibit, and the Latino Student Association Costume Dance.
