Teaching Interests:

Before coming to UCA, I worked as a lecturer at the University of California, San Diego.  My classes at UCSD covered topics related to freedom of expression and communications regulation, media industries, and cultural studies.  I am eager to incorporate this experience in teaching both foundational classes at UCA as well as more topically-oriented classes in the future.

 Research Interests:

My work combines some conceptual and methodological tenets of media and cultural studies with contemporary topics in communications regulation and freedom of expression.  In the past few years, I have written primarily about these issues in terms of the evolving relationship between reputation and freedom of expression on internet platforms.  My approach is still critically informed by past work that focused more on representations of social identity in popular culture (past and present).  Recently, I've also become more interested in populist rhetoric and politicized constructions of the idea of "free speech" itself.

See my website for a description of my publications and conference activity.
