New Planetarium Show

The “Edge of Darkness” is showing at Griffin Planetarium, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm on 10/6, 10/7, 10/13 & 10/14. 

The one-hour show include a tour of the evening sky, flights around the universe, and the new full-dome movie “Edge of Darkness” which features discoveries of space missions to comets, asteroids, and outer solar system worlds.

The planetarium is located in the Conway Corporation for the Sciences. Doors open at 7:30pm and close promptly at 8 pm. Seating Limited!

Jewel Moore Nature Reserve Photography Contest

 

Digital photographs of nature or of humans interacting with nature must be taken in the Jewel Moore Nature Reserve, in the restored creek adjacent to the HPER, in the natural areas behind Lewis Science Center (including Culwell Natural Area and rain garden), or at the Steel Creek field station along the Buffalo River. Photographs of organisms taken from these areas and photographed in the lab may also be submitted (e.g. protists, algae, insects).

Contest is open to all UCA students, faculty, staff and alumni.  Deadline for submission November 1, 2017.

Dean Addison Kicks off Challenge Week 2017

CNSM Dean Stephen Addison kicks off Challenge Week next Monday, 10/2, with this topic “Algorithms: What they are, How we use them, and Why you should know about them” in Doyne Auditorium at 5 pm.  Reception to follow.

The Schedler Honors College Challenge Week theme is  “Brave New Algorithms: How ‘Big Data’ Shapes Our World and runs October 2-6.

CNSM Events during UCA’s Family Day September 30, 2017

Open House 10:30 am-12:00 pm Conway Corporation Center for Sciences Lobby

Bruce Street Tailgating 3:00 – 5:00 pm  – The STEM Residential College in Arkansas Hall, will be hosting a Family Day Tailgating Event from 3:00-5:00 pm at the CNSM Tailgating spot. We will be serving Pulled Pork BBQ, Cole Slaw, Chips and Drinks. The cost for the food is $2. Each Residential College has been tasked with preparing a BBQ sauce for competition (STEM is preparing Kentucky BBQ sauces). The BBQ sauce that receives the most donations wins. Finally, there will be a Corn Hole Tournament. Entry fee is $2.  All money earned from this event will go to the UCA Bear Food Pantry. Reminder: the CNSM tailgate spot is on Bruce street near the Crafton Alumni Pavilion.

Planetarium Show: “Invaders of Mars” 8:00-9:00 pm  Dr. Edmond E. Griffin Planetarium, UCA Conway Corporation Center for the Sciences (Bruce Street)

Enjoy a tour of the universe! Admission is free. Doors open 30 minutes before the show. No admittance once show has begun.

Invaders of Mars! at Griffin Planetarium

Playing this weekend and next in UCA’s Griffin Planetarium is Invaders of Mars!

Shows are Friday and Saturday at 8 pm on 9/22, 9/23, 9/29 & 9/30.

The one-hour shows this week include a tour of the evening sky,
the fall equinox, and the full-dome movie “Invaders of Mars”
narrated by Tom Baker of Dr. Who fame.  Located in the Conway Corporation Center for the Sciences, doors open at 7:30pm.  Seating Limited!

Observatory Public Viewing Wednesday, 9/20

The UCA Observatory will be open from 8 pm to 10 pm tonight to the public for views of the universe through the 14-inch aperture telescope. Stairs to the observatory are located in the front lobby of Lewis Science Center.
