The Department of Computer Science hosted the first Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site focused on computer science in the state of Arkansas during the summer of 2011. The program (funded by a three-year, $360,000 grant from the NSF) is studying Health Information Technology (HIT). The 10 undergraduate students spent 9 weeks studying HIT problems with the goal of improving the health care system. This program provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom education into practice working on a real-world problem. Dr. Vamsi Parachuri is the principle investigator on this project.
